I’m Karla Tipton, great-great-granddaughter of a founding family in Barberton, Ohio — and of Sarah Carter Murch Lehman Houser, who turns out to have more skeletons in her closet than any other ancestor I’ve got. I moved out to California for a journalism and IT career, then eventually found my way back home. Over the past forty years I’ve pieced together our family’s history, a lot of it from old photo albums and long talks with my grandparents on visits back to Barberton. I wrote Sarah’s story because those skeletons deserved to finally be told, not just hinted at.
